Queen of the Night Perfume Oil

Price range: $24.00 through $95.00

Queen of the Night is almost impossible. A deeply perfumy blend with a deeply foody core. It is dry and then again there is a dry sweetness to it. A remarkable scent, thoroughly entrancing and hypnotic. Queen of the Night is thoroughly original, maddeningly hard to classify;  it is in the same category as Mugler's Angel but it does not smell at all like Angel. Confused? It reminds one more of Balenciaga's Les Dix for its "fabric" like component (smells something like silk). perfumy, foody, gourmand, chic.

The image on the label is a detail of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec's At The Moulon Rouge.

  1. JOANN WHEELER

I wanted to try Queen of the Night because the description referenced Thierry Mugler’s Angel, a supernova of a scent. It is in fact arresting and unclassifiable, like Angel — you keep sniffing your wrist and asking, “What IS that?!” It starts out dense and full of spices, like a closed and curtained room where incense has been burned, chai has been brewed, and exotic desserts have been prepared for years. I can’t tease out any individual notes from the many layers, but the feel is warm and dry — cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, cloves — but definitely not fall candle or pumpkin spice. Unlike Mugler’s Angel, which announces itself for miles, this is very private and close to the skin. It unfolds to a long sweet delicate perfume, lasts about four hours. This is what the storied Mistress of Spices must smell like!
